Surgical Procedures for Men

Unwanted Male Breast Enlargement (Gynecomastia)

Gynecomastia is the medical term for over-developed male breasts. It is much more common than generally recognized, affecting an estimated forty to sixty percent of men, especially those over fifty. The causes for male breast enlargement may relate to family disposition, steroid use, or a period of obesity as a child or young adult where the breast glands retained a certain amount of fat following a large decrease in body weight. In addition, specific medical conditions as well as certain drugs can also cause male breasts to enlarge.

This condition can often be corrected effectively; alleviating ridicule and allowing those suffering from enlarged breast to feel much better about themselves in public. Techniques such as Ultrasound Assisted Liposuction (UAL) or VASER Liposelection have been developed to allow the removal of this extra breast tissue. Specialized liposuction instruments can be used through very tiny puncture sites for the removal process. This procedure can be performed as same-day surgery, and patients return to normal activities quickly. An extended consultation with Dr. Drehsen to review your specific needs and goals is recommended.

Commonly surgical excision may be necessary for the fibrous nodular part of the gland in the cases liposuction will help by leveling surrounding areas in a smoother fashion.

Male Facial Rejuvenation

In past years, facial rejuvenation was considered part of a "woman's world". Today, however, men too are discovering the possibilities of cosmetic surgery. Due to the increased interest in male rejuvenation, Dr. Drehsen has developed several techniques that maintain a masculine appearance and improve the male facial contour. Because men have contours that are cosmetically different than women, Dr. Drehsen uses unique procedures for shaping the chins, noses, eyes, necks, and foreheads of men. Computer imaging also allows Dr. Drehsen to demonstrate the individual needs and goals of his patients. Most male facial rejuvenation procedures are performed on an outpatient basis, and patients can return to their normal functions within 1 to 2 weeks.
